    @raeanin You recommend leg presses but the smith machine puts you in an “unnatural” groove? The leg press locks you in? even more. At least with the smith you can choose where to place your hips in relation to the bar. I think they hate for the smith machine is WAY overblown. There is far more room for adjustment than there is on a leg press or hack squat.

    Seriously, quit giving out bad advice. Your going to hurt someone. Smith machine squats force your body into an unnatural squat groove. They are less effective, dangerous and generally not recommended by ANY modern strength coaches.

    Beginners should stick to barbell squatting at or? below parallel and deadlifting/stiff leg deadlifting for lower body. Once more advanced, you can add unilateral movements such as split squats/lunges, and more accessory work like leg presses/curls

    @MrPhipper

    you shouldnt feel bad about your thighs touching eachother i got 28 inch thighs and always? had big thighs too it’s just what you got in life.. strong legs can look good on men too.

    what’s better squat in smith machine or hack squat ? I’m asking this because i saw a girl doing squats in smith machine.. and she was going down like 20 cm.. so i showed her what squats should look like.. and then pointed her to the hack squat machine because she goes lower that way. i don’t really like doing squats in? smith machine.. because its just to locked in for me to have a free range of motion.

    I? don’t get why the smith machine is so bad because it supposedly “forces” you into an unnatural groove. Most of the smith machine critics would not tell you to avoid the leg press which is even more restrictive. Even when you are squatting a free bar (especially heavy) the weight still travels in a straight line. If it didn’t, you would fall over.

    Steve, I have the tendency to gain muscle faster in my lower body and? I don’t like the look of bulky legs what should I do?

  18. BodyPerformanceTV says:

    @p90x4lifewaswrong Haven’t squated in years but my? best squat was 405 x 8 at 165 lbs. in college.

  19. p90x4lifewaswrong says:

    Steve,

    What’s your max? Squat?

  20. p90x4lifewaswrong says:

    @Chaaarge Front squats are a goofy exercise IMO. Difficult to perform and not anymore? effective than back squats.

  21. Chaaarge says:

    how about front squats? safe on the lower back, easy to dump the weight if? needed, allow you to lift heavy weight and it utilizes the quads completely

  22. TheRealWm says:

    Smith squats? really? Don’t? you find they force you to use the machines range of motion instead of your own body’s natural motion?
